Year 5 Spring 2018 Newsletter

5th January 2018

 Dear Year 5 Parents,

Welcome back! I hope you have all had a great break over Christmas and that the children have returned refreshed and ready to work hard.

For your information, PE/Games this term will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit and trainers in school at all times.

 Homework

Homework will remain the same as last term.

Spellings: the children should continue to follow the schedule of spellings sent home last term. In some cases, I have sent home duplicates of this, but if your child has lost their copy, please could they ask me for another. The week shown at the top of each list is the week in which they should be learned for a test the following week.

Grammar: each week, there will be a sheet of mixed grammar and spelling questions. These will relate to the year 5 English Grammar curriculum objectives.

Good morning Everyone By now, you will have received two important letters from me—one about school budgets and the other about me leaving Hayfield at the end of this academic year. I am so privileged to have been the headteacher at this school for so long. I have absolutely loved working with your children, yourselves, my governors and my fantastic staff on making this school the warm, friendly, vibrant learning community that it is. Hayfield Primary is my second home, so I’m going to miss it! But the time has come for me to step aside and make way for someone new, someone with fresh ideas and the ca-pacity to lead the school onwards on its journey to excellence. Governors will ensure that this is someone with the energy, drive and enthusiasm to face the challenges we all face today in education, someone that is positive about the future and will maintain the wonderful, caring ethos we have in our school today...more

Good morning Everyone This week, we have been monitoring the teaching and learning of maths. I have been joined in my observations by my deputy, Mrs Kenyon, and also our local authority adviser, Steve Ford. It’s been great to see excellent classroom management, children engaged in their learning, using a range of concrete resources and drawings to aid their understanding, and greater fluency and reasoning across the school. We continue to work hard on ensuring that our ex-pectations of all children’s achievement in maths are high whilst meeting individual needs. Please keep supporting your children at home with their learning - those who are completing their homework and regularly accessing Mathletics are making faster progress. Thank you....more

Good morning Everyone Two weeks into the 2nd half of Autumn Term and we are already getting very busy in the lead up to Christmas. This morning, we will enjoy our walk, led by the British Legion, to the war memorial where we will attend our annual special service in remembrance of those who died 100 years ago to give us the freedoms we enjoy today. We hope to see many of you there. Thank you to Ms Grove for coordinating this event....more

Good morning Everyone I do hope your children are already enjoying their first day of the autumn holidays. I am about to join all the other schools in PEGS for an INSET this morning on wellbeing – an increasingly important subject that affects the work and learning of both adults and children in school in these busy times. So it’s a pertinent time for me to say a thank you to my staff for a good first half term and I hope that everyone – children and adults alike – enjoys a well-earned rest. ...more

Hello Everyone We’ve had a lovely morning here in school. Our Open Morning was well attended, and our lovely Molly, Shay, Sophie, Ollie, Zara and Thomas, all from Year 6, made very informative tour guides when they took the visiting parents around the school. One parents said to me, “We were really impressed. Those children know so much about the school and were very enthusiastic. It was lovely!” Thank you, children. You did a brilliant job!...more
