Ofsted grade attendance:

 95.7%+ as HIGH

  • 94.9% – 95.6% as ABOVE AVERAGE
  • 94.0% - 94.8% as AVERAGE
  • -94.0% as LOW

This means that pupil attendance for 2016-17 is high but has not quite met our challenging target of 97%.  It is, however, above last year’s national average of 96% and slightly above our own 2015-16 attendance figure of 96.3%.

The attendance of children is monitored closely and patterns of non-attendance are noted, e.g. children who are frequently off school on Mondays or Fridays; children who have a lot of time off because of illness; children who are persistently late for school. We try to work with parents to improve attendance and punctuality, and we always inform the LA when we have genuine concerns.  Low attendance is now referred to the Multi-Agency Team but we (PEGS’ headteachers) are finding this to be ineffective and are currently in discussion with the MAT about improving this service which, in effect, we pay for.

We continue to promote good attendance in a number of ways, e.g. through our weekly best class attendance award, notes in the newsletter etc, and we always keep parents informed of their children’s attendance figures.
