Termly Newsletter

4th January 2018

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! We hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and we would like this opportunity to say a great big thank you for all your kind gifts and messages which you kindly sent us. It was greatly appreciated.

In English the units that will be covered this term are Legends and Non-chronological reports with Ms Grove. Mrs Goddard will cover diary recounts and narrative stories with a familiar setting.

In Mathematics we will follow the White Rose curriculum which will include multiplication and division, fractions, decimals and measurement.

Some subjects will stand alone as follows:

Science:        Living Things- What makes a good habitat?

History:        Ancient Greece – How was it similar and different from the Ancient Egyptians?

PSHE:               Living in the wider world.

RE:                   What is the purpose and value of a sacred space?

PE:                   Monday (indoor)

                        Wednesday am (swimming).

Art:            What can we learn from the Aboriginal community?

Music:         Wider opportunities - brass

Please remember, everyone needs to have a complete indoor and outdoor PE kit in school at all times. Ensure all the kit is named, as unnamed t-shirts, black shorts and tracksuits are very difficult to identify. (The same is true for school sweatshirts, polo shirts, trousers, dresses and coats!) Also please make sure that if your child is swimming this half term that they have their swimming kit.

We would also just like to remind you that children only need to bring their school bag, post bag, reading bags/books and diaries to school each day (no pencil cases).

You should not bring any precious objects including footballs or money to school as these often get lost or cause confusion and upset.

We encourage the children to drink water at appropriate times during the day, so please send a fresh bottle of water in school each day.  Please make sure that bottles are clearly named and if possible have a sports top to avoid spillages.

Homework:

As before, each week an arithmetic and reasoning math’s sheet will be sent home on a Monday. Please could you ensure that it is returned to school the following Monday. Similarly a spelling and SPAG homework will be sent home each Friday and will need to be returned the following Thursday. Finally, there is an optional topic homework which is not compulsory. This term it has been designed to improve their research and public speaking skills.

Reading:

Just a polite reminder that is highly recommended that your child reads at least 4 times a week at home to an adult and that it is recorded in PEN in their reading diary.

We always appreciate extra adult help in the classroom, if you are able to help in any way, either on a regular or one-off basis, please let us know.  Anyone helping in school does require DBS clearance.  If you do not have this, please contact the office for a form to complete.

We would like to thank you for your continuing support and in co-operating with us to move their learning forwards. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries throughout the term. You can find us in the classroom after school most evenings, ring at lunchtime or leave a message with Mrs Hallam.

Yours sincerely

Ms K Grove and Mrs S Goddard
