Our Philosophy


At Hayfield School we aim to provide a broad, balanced and creative curriculum, which meets the requirements of the new National Primary Curriculum.

The curriculum in our school, however, is a lot more than legal requirements.  It is the entire learning experience, i.e. lessons, events, routines and what the children do outside and beyond school.  It is designed to foster independent thinking, enterprising behaviours and a love of learning.

It is always evolving so that it is relevant to our children, taking account of their interests and changing needs, and is constantly aiming to include, support, challenge and inspire every child.  It is also makes effective use of our locality– of our fantastic school grounds and the lovely village and surrounding areas in which the school lies.

Our vision is that our pupils will be happy, healthy and respectful individuals, with a positive attitude to learning and life.  They will be reso

urceful, independent thinkers who have the confidence, knowledge and skills to reach their potential and make a positive contribution to society.


We view the education of children at Hayfield School as a partnership between school and home, where teachers and parents work together and support each other for the mutual benefit of the children’s learning and wellbeing.

The school is very much at the centre of the village community. We take every opportunity to be involved in village life and to involve the village in our school. We are fortunate to have beautiful, spacious grounds and make the most of them by engaging in regular sports and games, outdoor learning and environmental work.  We are currently aiming to achieve the ECO Schools Green Flag Award, and we are pioneers of the Derbyshire Ready Enterprise Programme.
