Hello Everyone It’s getting very Christmassy around here this week. From my office I can hear the sweet sound of infants singing—I’m sure we are all in for a treat today when we get to see our Reception Class performing their Christmas play, and again next week on Tuesday evening and Wednesday after-noon, when Years 1 and 2 show us what they’ve been up to in their Christmas performance. Talking of singing, it was wonderful to hear Year 4 on Wednesday returning to school joyfully singing the Christmas carols they had just performed for the Pavilion Club who meet at Hayfield Cricket Club, and it has been equally wonderful listening to the whole school rehearsing for the Carol Concert at St John’s next Thursday at 10am. We do hope you can join us at this concert; it’ll certainly get you into the spirit of Christmas....more

Hello Everyone Another washout of a week on the weather front, but we haven’t let that get us down! Year 5 have spent a day being evacuees at the Air Raid Shelters in Stockport; the infants have enjoyed rehearsing for their Christmas play; and all of the children have been singing beautifully in preparation for our carol concert at St John’s on 17th December. Reception children have been busy too, decorating the Christmas tree and the display area in the reception area of the school—it looks lovely; well done, children! Please check the diary dates because there are a lot of Christmassy things on during the last week, which you need to know about, for example,...more

Hello Everyone This will be a brief intro as everyone is very busy getting ready for this afternoon’s Christmas Fayre . We hope you can come along and support the children’s enterprise stall and all the hard work of the PTA. Just come to take a peek at Santa’s Grotto if nothing else –fantastic! On a less positive note, I’m afraid, I need to inform you that, as the car park is still being used by parents to drop off and collect children...more

Hello Everyone Well, hasn’t it been a horridly wet and windy week? The wind has been awful - and windy playtimes rarely support calmness in the classroom! However, I’ve been observing the teaching and learning of maths this week and I have to say the vast majority of children are engaged and happy to learn, so that’s good! Thank you to those parents who braved the weather last Thursday to attend our Parents’ Information Evening, which I hope you found to be somewhat informative and useful. A number of parents said that they wanted to know more about the changes in the SATs for 2016, and some said they found the e-Safety session especially informative and would like to know more keeping their children safe online...more

Hello Everyone This will be brief and hot off the press! What a great week we’ve had here in school— and now we’re all very much ready for a quiet weekend! David Ash from the Royal British Legion kindly kicked off the week with a lovely assembly on Remembrance. Our reception children did a great job of telling the whole school about Children in Need in their wonderful assembly on Tuesday morning, and Tuesday was also the day that Hayfield Reds did themselves, the school and the High Peak area proud. A huge well done, boys! Read all about it on the next page......more

Hello Everyone Hope you all had a good week with your children. It's lovely to have them back and it's great that they are happy to be back, as they told me in assembly on Monday when I did a bit of research to find out what they had to say about being a child at Hayfield Primary School. When asked what they enjoyed in school, it was great to hear things like, ‘fundraising’, ‘doing sports’, ‘art and poetry’, ‘enterprise projects’, ‘doing plays’, ‘working with other children from other classes’, ‘maths’ (in fact, Zach in Y3 asked me if he could do maths all day!), ‘writing stories’, ‘music and playing instruments’ and ‘playing with friends’. .....more

Hi Everyone We've had another very busy week here in school, and it looks as though we'll be just as busy right up to the last day of this first half term, which is coming round all too soon! We had a lovely Harvest Festival at St Matthews on Tuesday, with wonderful singing, great poetry and a reminder about the great variety of food we have on our plates compared to those less fortunate. We are collecting non-perishable foods at school for the New Mills .....more

Hi Everyone, What a fantastic, inspiring day we have had today—on National Poetry Day 2015! Andy Tooze, local ‘Poet from the Peaks’, spent the day in school working with every class to produce some fantastic poetry, which many of the children shared in a whole school assembly at the end of the day. Andy inspired the children with his wonderful passion and enthusiasm and his performance of some of his own, very humorous poems.....more
